Mirror's Edge's online shutdown was previously announced to be January 19, 2023. Fans are disappointed as some of the modes tied to these games will be gone forever. Last year, EA shut down several servers, such as several games in the Command & Conquer series and Onrush. EA has announced that eight games will be losing their online services throughout 2024. Even before the mini-rush of people checking out BF5 before 2042 launched, I felt like there was a decent number of servers on all game modes. These are the latest EA games to have their upcoming online functionality removed. Battlefield 1943 is an online-only multiplayer game, so after the date has passed, it will be unplayable. Just give up on Battlefield 2042, SHUT IT DOWN. Destiny servers down, Helldivers 2 servers down. A previous announcement also included Mirror's Edge, but this was omitted from an updated version several hours later and now it appears it will not be delisted. Additionally, their online services will shut down on December 8. Still, he added, "We have enormous respect for the Battlefield community and are listening to the feedback. "DICE will continue to add servers and will reserve a percentage of servers for players who prefer to connect through DICE-hosted servers," Nguyen added. Peter Van Nguyen, EA Games PR director, explained the semantic, yet important distinction, saying, "If DICE-managed servers appear unavailable, it is because they have been rented and customized by players. An EA representative responded to reports that official EA and DICE servers for console versions of Battlefield 3 were being shut down and replaced by privately-run servers, telling Polygon, "DICE is not shutting down servers."
